Registration

The Cycad Society is hosting Cycad Day 2017 at Peckerwood Garden in Hempstead, Texas on Sunday, November 5th, 2017. The event will begin with lectures at 10 a.m., followed by a lunch, and then a garden tour and plant auction in the afternoon. The cost for this event will be a $10 entrance fee to Peckerwood Garden, and a box lunch fee of $10, if you would like to eat lunch at the garden. Those wishing to participate in the auction must be members of the Cycad Society (TCS), and we will be selling and renewing memberships at the event.

The lectures schedule for this event will begin with an introduction and an update on the Society by TCS President Craig Nazor. This will be followed by a lecture by TCS Seed Bank Director and horticulture consultant, Garrie Landry about growing Zamias on the gulf coast (Garrie currently consults for Avery Island and Rip Van Winkle Gardens in Louisiana). Next will be a lecture by TCS Director and Montgomery Botanical Center Cycad Biologist, Michael Calonje on the natural history of Caribbean Zamias. The last talk, delivered by Peckerwood Garden’s Director of Horticulture, Adam Black, will be a travelogue of a trip he made to New Caledonia recently, which will feature exotic endemic plants, including many Gymnosperms, for which the islands are known.

Cycad Day will be preceded on Saturday, November 4th by our annual board meeting, also at Peckerwood Garden.

If you are interested in attending Cycad Day 2017, or if you are a member of TCS and would like to attend the Saturday board meeting, please contact Craig Nazor at c.nazor@earthlink.net and put Cycad Day 2017 on the subject line.
