Please join us this third Thursday at the Zilker Botanical Garden for Jim Mauseth's presentation on "Sugary Spines, Leafy Flowers and other Unusual Desert Adaptations in Cacti".
Jim Mauseth has been a professor of Botany at the University of Texas at Austin since 1975. His research focuses on the modifications that occurred as the early cacti evolved and diversified to be the wonderful plants we see today. Jim’s specialty is plant anatomy, studying the cells and tissues of cacti and comparing them to the equivalent parts of plants that have more ordinary structures typical of non- succulent plants. He has traveled extensively in South America, and is a Fellow of the Cactus and Succulent Society of America.
Door will open at 7pm for chit chat and snacks, and the presentation will start around 7:30pm
